Physiotherapy
What can I expect on my first physiotherapy visit at TherapyWise?Your first visit will incorporate an assessment of your condition and treatment if indicated. The physiotherapist will take a detailed history of your present condition and medical status. This is followed by a methodological clinical assessment of your biomechanics, posture, joint & soft tissue mobility, muscle strength and co-ordination. Based on your clinical diagnosis a treatment plan will be established. Your treatment plan will be adapted to your needs and abilities and will be reviewed on/between each visit to ensure optimal rehabilitation of your injury/condition.
Please allow up to 1hour for your first visit and up to 45 minutes for your follow-up treatment. Each follow-up treatment incorporates a re-assessment of your condition to establish your progress.
Yes, if you want to speak to the physiotherapist to discuss how we can help you or ensure that your condition is appropriate for physiotherapy intervention please tell our receptionist. In some cases physiotherapy is not indicated and you may need to be referred for further investigations or to your GP.
The amount of treatment you need depends on the presenting condition and diagnosis. The physiotherapist will discuss this with you on your first visit. Generally, the more recent an injury or condition the quicker it will respond to physiotherapy intervention. Early treatment will help you to regain speedy pain free function.
Please bring loose, comfortable exercise clothing which would enable the therapist to expose the affected area appropriately. Wearing shorts are advisable for the assessment of all hip, knee, ankle, foot and spinal assessments. Please do not wear running tights.

Podiatry
What happens on my first podiatry visit at TherapyWise?Your podiatrist will take a detailed history of your injury or condition. This is followed by comprehensive gait analysis using computerised GaitScan(TM) and treadmill equipment. Your podiatrist may assess your foot mobility, joint position, muscle length and strength to enable correct diagnosis and targeted treatment. You may be fitted with corrective orthotics if indicated. Not all patients require orthotics and their condition or injury may be resolved simply by using specific prescribed exercises or advice on appropriate footwear. Your Podiatrist will advise if you require further assessment by a Physiotherapist or Orthopaedic foot specialist.
Initial assessment could last up to 50 minutes and follow-up treatment approximately 30 minutes.
Please bring a pair of shorts and a few examples of appropriate footwear i.e. work shoes or running trainers. If you have a referral letter from your GP or Consultant please bring this to your session.
The amount of treatment you need depends on the presenting condition and diagnosis. Your podiatrist will discuss this with you on your first visit. Generally 3 visits are sufficient.
In most cases the podiatrist will fit you with orthoses on your first visit to start you on the road to recovery.
